Local teen escapes kidnapping attempt says authorities

Report: 17-year-old jumped from a moving vehicle

JUNIATA TERRACE — Police responded to an attempted kidnapping Monday afternoon in Juniata Terrace Borough after a 17-year-old reported being picked up by an unidentified person in a black Jeep Cherokee.

According to a report from Pennsylvania State Police — Lewistown the Mifflin teen was walking northbound along Delaware Avenue around 2:00 p.m. when he was approached by the Jeep and asked if he wanted a ride. The victim then agreed to ride with the unknown individuals.

According to the report, the driver asked the victim if he could borrow his cell phone. The man then turned the phone off and allegedly said, “Don’t worry about it. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.”

The victim grabbed his phone from the man’s lap, opened the rear passenger side door, and jumped out of the moving Jeep near Bell Avenue. The Jeep continued nourthbound on Route 103 to an unknown location.

The teen reported the following items stolen: a black backpack; a wallet containing the victim’s information; a red, hooded sweatshirt; a T-shirt; and an HP chromebook with the serial number CBC-0330.
