MCRPD investigating on 2 recent burglaries

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Regional Police Department is investigating two recent residential burglaries in Derry Township.

According to police, at approximately 12:37 a.m. on Friday, officers were dispatched to a residence on Somar Drive in Derry Township for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, police said officers found that the actor(s) had fled the scene. Officers canvassed the area and were unable to locate any potential suspects. The homeowners were inside the residence at this time.

At approximately 7:47 a.m. on Sunday, police said officers were dispatched to a residence on Sunshine Circle in Derry Township for an attempted burglary that occurred sometime during the overnight hours. Upon arrival, police said officers found pry marks on an exterior door to the rear of the residence where unknown persons attempted to forcibly enter. The homeowners were inside the residence at this time.

Police urged residents in that neighborhood to exercise “due care” and revealed there are no leads yet in either incident. Police said residents should take care to secure their houses and vehicles and all suspicious persons or suspicious vehicles should be immediately reported to the communications center at (717) 248-9607.
