Most local counties see totals unchanged

Perry County reports one new death, one new COVID-19 case

From staff reports

Most local counties reported no new cases of COVID-19 in the latest data released Thursday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Mifflin County remained at 58 cases and one death to date, Juniata County held at 95 cases and four deaths, Huntingdon County stayed at 228 cases and two deaths and Snyder County remained at 39 cases and one death.

Perry County reported its second COVID-19 death and one additional case for a new total of 54 cases.

Today, Snyder County was among the first group of 18 counties to move to the least-restrictive “green” phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s gradual reopening plan for Pennsylvania.

Also today, Mifflin, Juniata and Perry counties were joined by Huntingdon County in the yellow phase. Huntingdon County’s numbers had been skewed by the outbreak at State Correctional Institution Huntingdon, whose inmates are considered by the state as county residents.

No COVID-19 patients seeking care locally are currently using ventilators. Across Pennsylvania, there are 1,476 people hospitalized due to COVID-19, 314 of which are on ventilators.

In other nearby counties, Centre County reported one new case for a total of 150 with six deaths, Dauphin County added five deaths and 38 new cases for totals of 1,212 cases and 71 deaths, Franklin County reported just three new cases but did report an additional death for totals of 759 cases and 31 deaths and Union County saw its numbers go unchanged, standing at 56 cases and one death.

Statewide, there have been 70,042 cases of COVID-19 and 5,373 deaths attributed to the virus. There have been 357,804 negative tests in Pennsylvania so far.
