Weis: Employee at Mifflintown store tests positive for COVID-19

MIFFLINTOWN – An employee at the Mifflintown location of Weis Markets has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a Saturday press release from the company.

“We can confirm a Weis associate, who worked in our Mifflintown, PA store has been diagnosed with COVID-19,” the release states. “While we are limited in what we can say due to government privacy policies, this associate has not worked in our Mifflintown store, or any other Weis store since March 19.”

“We are supportive of our associate and are following guidelines from local and state health departments. Earlier (Saturday), we informed our Mifflintown store’s associates and have no reports of additional illness. As a precaution, one person, who worked with the diagnosed associate, has gone into self-quarantine.”

The company says in recent weeks the store has been cleaned on an hourly basis when open and afterward while closed, which are “standard procedures for all Weis stores.” The company also said it cleaned and sanitized the Mifflintown store earlier Saturday, procedures which the company says have been “reviewed and approved by the PA Health Department.”

The Mifflintown store remains open.

Officially, there is one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Juniata County, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Cases are listed by the county in which the patient resides. It is unclear where this employee lives.
