Lewistown Borough Council discusses business at meeting

The Council of the Borough of Lewistown had a meeting on Feb. 10, 2020. The following is their statement:

At its meeting on Feb. 10, 2020, the Council of the Borough of Lewistown adopted a resolution clarifying its intentions regarding its future relationship with the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown. It has been many years since the borough examined the authority’s operations and projects, and several weeks ago it commissioned engineering and financial firms to conduct an independent study of the authority’s finances, rates and assets. The borough has an obligation to its residents to protect its rights in regards to the authority, so the council adopted a resolution directing the authority to delay major projects, including a proposed $30 million bond issue, pending the release of the professional study and the parties discuss its findings. Contary to some statements being made, there is no sentiment whatsoever on the borough council to sell the water system. The borough is committed to preserving the quality water service provided by the authority.
