Penns Valley Area School Board authorizes sale of land

SPRING MILLS –Penns Valley Area School District’s Board of Directors authorized the sale of two parcels of land through sealed bids this spring.

The school district purchased the adjacent Crater farm property in March 2018. Since then the district has held a series of open forums welcoming input on how to best utilize the resource to improve the educational experience for students.

After taking public input, the district has incorporated community ideas into a long-term master land use plan. Considering the plan, the board decided to subdivide the two parcels for sale.

According to a news release, the district still plans to develop a portion of the property to increase student safety, security and function, redesign and control vehicle access, improve student walkways, enhance student bus drop off, and athletic field functions.

The first parcel is approximately 22 acres, bordered on the west by Green Grove Road and on the north by Summer Mountain Road. The site includes two houses, a bank barn, a pond, and several outbuildings.

The second parcel is approximately 18 acres and is bordered on the south by the current Crater properties and on the east by Green Grove Road.

There will be an open house for the buildings from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13. Sealed bids are due to the Penns Valley administration offices, 4528 Penns Valley Road, Spring Mills, by 2 p.m. March 18.
