Veterans recognition breakfast scheduled

BELLEFONTE — State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, is inviting veterans in the 171st Legislative District to a veterans recognition breakfast on Nov. 8.

The breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. and will held at the American Legion Smith-Pletcher Post 779, Penns Valley Pike, Centre Hall.

“This event is just one small way we can thank those who bravely and selflessly defended our freedoms,” Benninghoff said. “I hope veterans and their spouses will come and be recognized for their dedication to this nation.”

Col. “O.J.” Johnston, a retired Air Force officer from Centre County, will be the event’s featured guest speaker. Johnston is a command pilot with more than 2,600 hours in combat aircraft. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Combat Readiness Medal, among others.

The event is free to attend for veterans and active duty military from all branches and eras of military service and their spouses, but space is limited, and reservations are required. To RSVP or for more information, call Benninghoff’s district office at 814-355-1300
