Board discusses cost of re-paving Valley Road

YEAGERTOWN — The Derry Township Board of Supervisors met Monday evening to discuss and approve routine business.

The board discussed the cost of helping to pay for the paving of Valley Road in Lewistown. Lewistown Borough asked the township to help offset the cost of the project because the road is shared between the municipalities.

Following discussion, the board rejected the request.

In other business, the board:

¯Announced that a meeting will be held at a later date to discuss readvertisement of an ordinance.

¯Approved the Mifflin County Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program, contingent upon some minor changes.

¯Approved a Bruce and Merrilees execute contract for traffic lights.

¯Approved the budget.

¯Discussed how well the local parks have been maintained this year.

¯Approved township bill payments.

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Derry Township offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 2. The board’s next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Derry Township Municipal Building. A public hearing will be held prior to the regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. to discuss a Buffington-Palm re-zoning request.
