Annual ‘Week of Caring’ to begin July 29

From staff reports

LEWISTOWN — Church mission teams in Mifflin County are once again gearing up for the fourth annual “Week of Caring” to be held July 29 to Aug. 2.

Each day of mission will begin at 9 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church on Logan Street in Lewistown. Volunteer applications and insurance information will be collected at the church.

Mifflin County residents who need work done around their house and/or property are encouraged to schedule a mission team visit. The team analyzes each job and determines whether the work fits into the scope of “Week of Caring.” There are no financial barriers that would disqualify a resident in order to receive consideration for help.

Last year, participants in Week of Caring accomplished tasts that included: painting, hedge trimming, power washing, landscaping, stair tread repairs, facial repair, plaster repair, etc. Last year, volunteers accumulated more than 650 volunteer hours and were representative of at least 12 different church congregations along with the Mifflin County High School Key Club.

Call (717) 248-4618, ext. 106, with your name, phone number and details on your work request. Those interested in volunteering may call the same number.

Residents seeking help and volunteers interested in joining can access a Facebook “Week of Caring” page. They can also use the page to register and follow updates.

Those interested in financially supporting the mission to Mifflin County can make checks payable to First United Methodist Church with “Week of Caring” in the memo line. They can be mailed to 200 East 3rd St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
