STATE COLLEGE — Mount Union won its fourth baseball state championship Thursday evening, defeating Notre Dame-Green Pond by a 9-1 score in the PIAA Class 3A championship game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College.

Seth Smith threw a complete game for the Trojans, who won their first championship since 1995.

In the Class A championship earlier in the day, Greenwood fell 2-1 to West Middlesex.

The Wildcats pushed across a run in the second inning to take the lead, but the Big Reds scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take the lead.
