To dye for

Sentinel photo by BRADLEY KREITZER

Heaven Pent, 9, left, and her mother, Elizabeth Pent, decorate a T-shirt during a student-lead Communities That Care tie-dye event at the Mifflin County High School Wednesday evening in Highland Park. Local youth were encouraged to tie-dye a free T-shirt in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. Students also challenged community members and agencies to bring a white T-shirt and join them in support of this cause. Anyone who makes a T-shirt is urged to wear it on Friday, May 10, to honor mental health awareness, increase suicide prevention and awareness, promote overall kindness and acceptance and fill the community with positive energy. The free T-shirts included the saying, ‘Slowly replacing negative thoughts with beautiful colors and positive energy,’ selected by event organizers. Mifflin County High School students McKenna Smith and Sydnee Kammerer came up with the idea and organized the event with Communities That Care.
