Reedsville community day

REEDSVILLE — The Pennsylvania Lumberjack Association will perform live demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Reedsville Community Day on June 8 at Bender Park.

Members of the association, both men and women, travel to competitions and demonstrations throughout Pennsylvania and the surrounding states to showcase their skills in various lumberjack events. Events include standing block and underhand chop, springboard, crosscut, bow saw, chainsaw, log roll and axe throw.

Vintage lumberjack methods will be demonstrated using vintage tools and the arduous process to complete a task compared to today’s equipment. A modified chainsaw with tremendous speed and sound will be used to show how the industry can operate today.

Nic Cramer, landscape manager at Metzler Forest Products in Reedsville, has been a competitor for seven years. He was introduced to the craft by his then girlfriend, Melissa, who is now his wife. She was a competitor, and both were attending Penn College. She later competed for Penn State.

Other activities during Reedsville Community Day include town-wide yard sales, breakfast at Bender Park followed by contests, dunk tank, crafts and other items for sale, chicken barbecue, antique car show, cow paddy bingo, EMS equipment, food vendors and Little Miss Reedsville contest.
