Commissioners honor county EMS
MIFFLINTOWN — Noting their work is invaluable to all citizens of Juniata and surrounding counties, the Juniata County commissioners on Tuesday adopted a proclamation designating May 19-25 as “Emergency Medical Services Week.”
On hand to accept the proclamation were several emergency services personnel representing the following agencies: Central Juniata EMS, Port Royal EMS, Lack-Tuscarora EMS and Richfield Ambulance.
Representatives from each group were asked to give a brief update on their activities, including Sam Graybill, president of the Richfield Ambulance Co., who noted his organization recently put the finishing touches on a new, licensed helipad located alongside their station.
Chris Yarnall, representing Lack-Tuscarora EMS, said his group covers some of the least populated areas of Juniata County, as well as parts of Perry, Franklin and Huntingdon counties.
Mike French, of Central Juniata EMS, said his crew is in the process of putting a newer truck into service and continues to conduct fundraising efforts in order to keep their heads above water.
Laura Shay, deputy chief of Port Royal EMS, said her group provides exclusive Advanced Life Support services and recently received a state grant to help offset the cost of new turnout equipment, which hasn’t been replaced in nearly 30 years.
Commissioner Alice Gray thanked all of the EMS personnel for their service to area residents.
“You are all a key asset to this county,” she remarked.
