Man sentenced for furnishing controlled substance to inmates
LEWISTOWN — John A. Beers V, 32, of Lewistown, was sentenced by President Judge David Barron Thursday, to a minimum of two-and-a-half to a maximum 10 years in a state correctional institution, said Mifflin County District Attorney Christopher Torquato.
Torquato said Beers has no time-served credit toward this sentence and it will run consecutively to a state prison sentence which he is currently serving from Juniata County.
In November, a jury of seven men and five women deliberated 45 minutes and returned a verdict of guilty for two felony counts against Beers, said Torquato. Beers was convicted of one count of distributing a controlled substance — Buprenorphine — to inmates in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility and one count of possessing a controlled substance in MCCF.
