FFA to host evergreen sale

MIFFLINTOWN–Attention all gift shoppers, are you searching for the perfect gift for your special someone? Are you having trouble finding something for that one person that just has everything? The search is over!

The Juniata FFA Chapter is hosting their Annual Evergreen Arrangement Sale from 3 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 12, 13 and 17 and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the Juniata FFA Greenhouse. The greenhouse is located behind the Tuscarora Junior High School at 3873 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown, below the Juniata High School football field.

There will be fresh arrangements created daily by FFA members and students enrolled in the plant and soil sciences course. Each arrangement will cost between $5 and $12, depending on the size of the arrangement.

The profits gained from this sale will benefit FFA members by allowing them to attend leadership conferences and educational trips and they will also provide students with scholarship opportunities.

Contestants sought for state pageants

LEWISTOWN–Organizers of the Miss Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Pageant and Miss Central Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teen Pageant have announced that they want to send a local contestant to the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant.

To be eligible for the title of Miss Freedom Forge, contestants will be required to reside, attend school or work in Mifflin, Juniata, Snyder, Blair, Centre, Huntingdon, Perry, Clinton or Union counties. In order to award this title to a local contestant, the pageant is required to have at least three contestants from those nine counties. In addition, the pageant plans to continue to award three “open” titles, Miss Central Pennsylvania, Miss Greater Juniata Valley and Miss MidState, which are available to contestants who reside, attend school or work anywhere within the state of Pennsylvania. At this time, contestant applications are being accepted for the 2019 pageants, which will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at the Mifflin County Middle School (the former Lewistown High School) on Manor Drive in Lewistown.

To be eligible to compete in the “Miss” pageant which leads to the Miss America Pageant, young women must be unmarried and between the ages of 17 and 25 and must reside, attend school or be employed in Pennsylvania.

At the Miss Central Pennsylvania Pageant “Miss” contestants will be judged in talent, interview, evening wear, on-stage question and lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit. The entry deadline is Jan. 5, 2019. “Miss” contestants are required to raise $100 for the Children’s Miracle Network and deposit that money into a special online account. Details are available on the Miss Central Pennsylvania Pageant website at www.MissCentralPA.org.

To be eligible to compete in the Miss Central Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teen pageant which leads to the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, girls must be between the ages of 13 and 17 as of July 31, 2019, and reside or attend school in Pennsylvania. “Teen” contestants are judged in talent, interview, evening wear and on-stage question and lifestyle and fitness in active wear. The entry fee into the Teen Pageant is $100. The entry deadline for Teen Contestants is also Jan. 5, 2019.
