Teen pleads not guilty to attempted homicide

18-year-old accused of shooting man in side with 9mm pistol

LEWISTOWN — Chase Michael Amspacker, 18, of Lewistown, pleaded not guilty to eight criminal counts, including attempted homicide, during his formal arraignment before President Judge David Barron on Tuesday.

Documents indicate that Amspacker discovered a man laying in bed with a female acquaintance in September, retrieved a 9 mm pistol from under another bed, woke the man from sleep, told him to leave the residence and threatened to call the police if he refused. Amspacker told police that the man assaulted him, causing a bloodied and swollen lip observed by police.

Amspacker ultimately confessed to shooting the man in the side, court documents state. Documents indicate the man left the residence and went to a nearby acquaintance’s home. The acquaintance reported the shooting to Mifflin County Regional Police Department, who saw the man bent over at the waist and bleeding from both the left side and the back, according to court documents.

A Cobra 9 mm pistol, containing one live round and a casing, was retrieved from the residence and police further reported recovering a black, nylon holster lying on the floor in a bedroom as well as a bullet and bullet hole in a flat-screen television, according to court documents. Documents indicate that Mifflin County Communications ran the serial number of the handgun and determined the weapon had been reported stolen to MCRPD in February.
