Chicken house deemed total loss
McVEYTOWN — A 400-foot long chicken house was deemed a total loss following a structure fire on Monday night in McVeytown.
Crews from McVeytown, West Granville, Granville, Junction, Newton Wayne and Mount Union fire departments were called to 164 Mountain Lane in Bratton Township, Mifflin County, at approximately 9:35 p.m. Monday. Firefighters reportedly had to be shuttled in to the location, due to the confined location of the chicken house. According to Barry Sunderland Jr., assistant chief of the McVeytown Volunteer Fire Co., the fire was more than half involved by the time crews arrived on scene.
Sunderland stated that the fire took nearly three hours to put out. He also stated that no injuries were reported, since the chicken house was empty at the time of the incident.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but fire marshalls are continuing investigation.
