Voting precinct proposal scheduled for public hearing

LEWISTOWN — A hearing has been scheduled regarding a recent petition to split the Brown Township voting precinct into two entities.

If approved, the two precincts will be Reedsville/Big Valley, housed at the Reedsville Fire Company banquet hall, and Church Hill, housed at Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church. The petition outlined the local election boards will include Theresa Schaaf, Jerry Gramley and Michael Sunderland in Reedsville/Big Valley and Tara Mowrey, Samuel Bray and Carol Reardon in Church Hill.

“The petition was filed with the intent of implementing the change for the General Election in November,” said Zane Swanger, Mifflin County Director of Elections & Voter Registration.

The Mifflin County Board of Elections petitioned the Court of Common Pleas in August, stating, “the Board has decided that the convenience of the electors of said precinct and the public interest will best be served by splitting said precinct.” Stephen Snook, county solicitor, filed the petition on behalf of the board.

The hearing is scheduled for Sept. 27 at 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom 2 of the Mifflin County Courthouse.
