Body found along creek
Local man had been missing since Dec.12
LEWISTOWN — A man was found dead Monday morning along Kish Creek in Lewistown.
According to the Mifflin County Coroner Dan Lynch, the body of Brian W. Horning, 49, of Shaw Avenue, was found around 10:30 a.m. along the side of Kish Creek in the area of South Main and Elizabeth Streets.
Chief of the Lewistown Fire Department Bob Barlett said the borough water rescue teams consisting of City Hook and Ladder and Brooklyn Hose companies, along with equipment from United Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene to rescue the body. Barlett said a passerby saw the body from the bridge and called 911.
He said crews arrived on scene and used stokes baskets to bring the body up. Barlett said no boats were put in the water.
“The operation went as well as expected for something like this,” he explained.
Lynch said an autopsy will be performed today to determine cause of death.
Sgt. William Roberts, of the Lewistown Borough Police Department, confirmed that Horning had been reported missing on Dec. 12, with no word from him to anyone. An investigation further into Horning’s death is pending the final autopsy report from Lynch. Roberts said more information may be available after the autopsy.
