A Shelter Animal’s New Year’s Wish

Christmas Day has officially come and gone and I, along with many of my furry friends at Huntingdon County Humane Society didn’t get a home for the holidays. But we have our paws crossed that 2020 will be our year. Don’t get me wrong. Our Christmas was merry because of the amazing caretakers who work and volunteer at the shelter. We even got presents because of generous donations from the community. We received tasty treats, new toys, bedding, food and so, so much more! We are so thankful for the humans who come and drop these donations off for us.

Now that Christmas is over everyone around here has started to talk about the New Year and what they are hoping and wishing for in 2020. That got me thinking, what do I want for myself and my friends this year?

My New Year’s wish is to finally find a home, not only for me and for all of my furry friends. I hope that maybe, just maybe, one of the kind humans who brings us goodies and donations will see me, or one of my sweet companions, and think “I am taking you home with me!”

Or maybe it could be a brand new visitor to the shelter. Someone who decides to check the place out and just happens to spot me wagging my tail. It could be love at first sight! Oh, how I dream that this could be my year. Maybe a place with a comfy couch that my new owners would let me lounge on. Or maybe a place filled with treats that I get to eat if I am well behaved — I promise to try my best! It’s possible that a new home for me would have another furry family member that I could play with. A human sibling would be wonderful too!

Whatever the situation I just know that there is a home out there for me this year. I also know there are homes out there for my friends. A place with a fenced in yard so dogs with lots of energy can run and roam and get all their energy out. Or a place with a windowsill for my cat friends so they can sit at the window and watch the chipmunks in the front yard and soak up the sun. It just all sounds so wonderful. Surely this is going to be the year that our dreams come true and we all find our forever homes, just like some of our friends were lucky enough to have happen to them this past year.

So that is my biggest and best wish for the New Year. But, I also hope that all the amazing donors, volunteers, and workers can keep doing what they do best — provide love and care for me and my furry friends. They may not realize it but they keep us safe, happy, and healthy and we are so thankful to them for that!

I hope whoever is reading this can help make all my dreams come true for 2020! If you have never visited Huntingdon County Humane Society, stop by. My friends and I are so anxious to meet you, and maybe YOU can help make our wishes come true! To our faithful donors and visitors, keep coming to see us and donating what you can because you too are helping make a wish come true!
