Tips for essential businesses to keep staff and customers safe

LEWISTOWN — The Pennsylvania Department of Health website has put out guidelines for essential businesses to continue to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The basics of washing hands and not touching the face remain. In addition, the DOH gave these additional reminders and ways to help protect employees and customers.

– Clean and disinfect all frequently touched objects and surfaces such as workstations, keyboards, phones handrails, doorknobs.

– Avoid using other people’s workstations and equipment when possible. If necessary, clean and disinfect them before and after use.

– Maintain a safe distance of approximately 6 feet from those around you. Some stores have even implemented this by placing stickers or tape lines at 6-8 feet apart so customers are sure they are maintaining the recommended distance. Disinfecting conveyor belts or check out counters, credit card machines and publicly shared pens is another way stores are taking extra measures to do their part in protecting the public.
