Barber opens shop in Belleville

BELLEVILLE — Gone are the days of having to travel to the “big city” to find a barber. Now there is one right in the heart of Big Valley. Retired teacher turned barber, Alan Miller opened Miller’s Barber Shop out of his home at 44 Pleasant St. in Bellville.

The full service barber shop offers not only haircuts, but straight razor beard trims, head shaves, beard trims, beard oil and balm treatments, hot towel face care, shampoo and color application. No appointments are necessary at Miller’s Barber Shop as walk-ins are welcome, however appointments are appreciated for coloring services.

Opening a shop was a logical choice for Miller who had a hobby of barbering and doing cuts during his time as a teacher. “I wanted to do something with my time after I retired,” Miller said. “Someone suggested this and I went full at it. I’m totally loving it.” Miller says since opening in December most of his clientele has been between the ages of 8 and 30, so he gets to do a lot of modern hair cuts and styles. Something he says that he really enjoys. “I just enjoy what I’m doing. Meeting new people,” Miller said. “I’m thoroughly enjoying the switch in career.”

Miller got his training at Martin’s Barber School in Huntingdon. After his instruction, Miller passed all the required state and barber exams and opened his new shop in December. Miller looks to someday expand his business to a larger location in downtown Belleville. Along with cuts and styles Miller also sells a variety of hair care products at his shop. He has pomades, beard oils, beard balms and wax. Miller’s is open Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday, noon – 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. You can reach Miller’s Barber Shop at (717)935-5594, on Facebook @babershop.millers or Instagram at barber_a.miller.
