The clinic, which opened Tuesday, offers after-hours services daily, until midnight, that include urgent care, ultrasounds, X-rays, full laboratory testing and surgery. At least one out of the four to five veterinary technicians is always available.

MIFFLINTOWN — An after-hours option to meet Juniata Valley pet owners’ veterinary needs is officially available, via the Juniata Veterinary Clinic in Mifflintown.

“This has always been a dream of mine,” said Doctor Michaela Fry, one of two veterinarians who work at the clinic.

With no after-hours urgent animal care in the area, Fry and Doctor Tasha Parks wanted to make one available for local pet owners, offering services daily until midnight that include urgent care, ultrasounds, X-rays, full laboratory testing and surgery. At least one out of the four to five veterinary technicians is always available.

Fry currently works at Pleasant View Veterinary Clinic in Lewistown and Parks has 10 years prior experience working in urgent care, first with C.P. Vets in State College, then in Dauphin County. Though eager to serve their urgent care customers’ needs, Parks and Fry said they have no desire, however, to replace their customers’ primary veterinarians and encourage their patients’ families to follow-up with their primary vet providers, after being seen by them.

“We want to work with local vets,” Parks said. “We don’t want to ‘steal’ clients.”

Fry said the project has been in the works for more than six months and that the most satisfying part about opening the clinic is being there when somebody has a real need.

“A lot of times we get a positive outcome from it,” Fry said. “It’s really rewarding.”

The clinic, located next to Fox’s Pizza at 1775 Butcher Shop Road in Mifflintown, is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to midnight and weekends 11 a.m. to midnight. For more information, call (717) 436-9790 and press option 3.
