Taylor Zahn joins Penn State livestock team

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State Extension recently hired Taylor Zahn as a livestock educator with a beef production focus. Housed in the York County extension office, Zahn will serve York and surrounding counties.

Zahn recently earned a master’s degree in agricultural extension education through Colorado State University, where she focused on livestock and adult education.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science management from North Dakota State University. While there, she worked at the Beef Cattle Research Complex for three years, served as a teacher’s aide, and participated in clubs such as Collegiate Cattlewomen and Saddle and Sirloin.

After graduating from North Dakota State University, Zahn accepted a position in Iowa as cattle manager of Leonard Limousin and Angus and later worked with Hawkeye Breeders Service. After much consideration, she and her husband Camden decided to relocate to southern Pennsylvania a few years later.

Since then, she has served as executive director of the Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association, managing educational events, overseeing the association’s social media presence and maintaining communication with members.

As a part of the extension livestock team, Zahn said she hopes to meet new people, see different production sites and learn about the evolving cattle industry.

“We look forward to her working with us and hope you will get the chance to meet her soon,” said Melanie Barkley, senior livestock extension educator and livestock team leader.
