Local volunteers to hold livestock show and sale
PORT ROYAL–After finding out that the 4-H youth fair was canceled due to COVID-19, a group of volunteers are looking to put on a show of their own.
The smaller version of the fair is called the Juniata County Youth Livestock Show and Sale, will be held at the Juniata County Fairgrounds. The show will include market swine, dairy market feeders and market steers. Sarah Hershey, 16, who is the president of the Juniata County 4-H Steak and Bacon club and also the treasurer of the Juniata FFA Chapter, is excited for her chance present her animals at the show.
“I’m thankful for these volunteers because I have invested so much time into these animals and I look forward to showing them,” Hershey said.
Hershey will be showing five animals in total, including two dairy feeders named Sammy and Arlon, and three pigs named Milo, Otis and Clover.
The market swine show will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 27, and the market feeder show will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28. The sale for swine, steers and dairy feeders will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. CDC guidelines will be followed.
