Farmers winter meeting planned in Snyder County
MIDDLEBURG – The Snyder County Conservation District, along with AgChoice Farm Credit, Hoover Tractor, Kantz and Steiniger Committee, Mifflinburg Bank and Trust, Perdue AgriBusiness, RHP Law Group LLC, Seed Consultants Inc. and Sunbury Motor Company, will host an agricultural winter meeting on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 3939 Park Road near Selinsgrove. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
The SCCD has successfully applied for pesticide, nutrient management and manure/hauler broker credits from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
Presenters will come from Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, agricultural and conservation agencies, Penn State and Penn State Extension. Topics include agricultural compliance, attracting natural pollinators, improving soil biology and crop productivity with cover crops, and Conservation District and U.S. Department of Agriculture updates. Penn State staff will discuss integrated pest management (IPM) for slugs and insects in no-till fields, the hows and whys of soil testing with SCCD staff, preventing pesticide exposure, differences between adjuvants and surfactants, and managing corn ear rots and mycotoxins.
