Darvin Yoder, left, president of the 4-H PDC Committee and Ernie Harrop, unit delegate for Land O’Lakes, accept a grant check for $5,000 for the Penn Roosevelt 4-H Camp. The grant was awarded by the Mid-Atlantic Grant Program, a grassroots program developed especially for the Land O’Lakes dairy communities in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The program works to improve quality of life by supporting valuable projects and charitable endeavors by mid-atlantic dairy leaders. Upon learning of Penn Roosevelt’s financial difficulties, Harrop contacted Yoder, PDC president, with the proposal to apply for the grant. Since receiving the grant, the camp has undergone facility renovations in order to have a usable facility for 4-H clubs from Mifflin County and surrounding counties as well as for educational and recreational events. When the camp is not being used by 4-H, it is available for rent by other community organizations. The rental fees will help pay the cost of the renovations and offset the maintenance costs. Anyone interested in renting Penn Roosevelt 4-H Camp should contact the extension office at (717) 248-9618.
