Godwin to Tampa in round 3

PHILADELPHIA — Penn State receiver Chris Godwin was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 84 overall pick in Friday’s NFL draft.

Godwin was thought by some to be a second-round pick, but instead he saw nine receivers picked ahead of him. He left Penn State after a stellar three-year career that culminated with a huge performance in the Rose Bowl, catching nine passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns against USC.

Now he will be playing alongside Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston.

“We are very excited for Chris to hear his named called during the NFL draft,” Penn State coach James Franklin said in a university statement. “He was a terrific leader for us and made tons of big-time plays during his Penn State career and I expect him to do the same with the Buccaneers.

“I believe Chris will add his name to the list of Nittany Lion wide receivers to excel at the next level.”
