Indians win 4-0 in TVL tournament

COVE — Ashlyn Pannebaker led the way for Juniata in its 4-0 win over Susquenita in the Tri-Valley League girls soccer semifinals Monday.

Pannebaker assisted on the Indians first two goals and scored the second two.

Nylah Pannebaker broke the scoreless tie almost 37 minutes into the first half. Victory Frantz added the second Juniata goal with 48 seconds remaining before half time.

Juniata did not wait as long to score in the second half, as Ashlyn Pannebaker netted her goals around the six- and 11-minute marks.

Hailey Kepner made 16 saves on all 16 shots on goal.

The Indians will play rival East Juniata, which received a bye, Wednesday at Upper Dauphin.

Boys soccer

Greenwood 1, Juniata 0

MILLERSTOWN — Greenwood advanced to the Tri-Valley League boys soccer championship with a single goal Monday.

Grant Kauffman scored for the Wildcats as the 72nd minute of play commenced in a game that was limited in chances — the Indians had just five shots on goal, and the ‘Cats one more.

Greenwood will play Halifax, a 6-1 winner over East Juniata, for the title Wednesday at Upper Dauphin.

Halifax 6, East Juniata 1

ELIZABETHVILLE–East Juniata lost to Halifax in the semifinals of the Tri-Valley League boys soccer tournament, 6-1.

The Tigers got off to a rough start, allowing four goals in the first half while not scoring any. East Juniata scored one goal in a comeback attempt but Halifax netted a pair to give the Wildcats the 6-1 win.

Xavier Clement scored the lone goal for the Tigers. Goalie Andrew Hunter had four saves.

Midd-West 2, Warrior Run1

TURBOTVILLE–Midd-West battled against Warrior Run and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 win in Heartland Conference soccer Monday.

Both defenses held tough as neither team was able to score in the first half. Warrior Run broke the scoreless tie with just under 28 minutes left to play.

Midd-West responded with goals from Nick Eppley and Trey Wagner to take the lead with 21 minutes remaining.

The Mustangs’ defense held on for the win.

Midd-West (15-2, 10-2) travels to Millville on Oct. 17.

St. Joseph’s 3, Belleville Mennonite 1

BOALSBURG — Despite dominating the stat sheet, Belleville Mennonite come out on the losing end, falling 3-1 to St Joseph’s in a nonleague boys soccer game Monday.

David Yoder scored the lone goal for the Thunder, coming with 24 minutes left in the second half.

Belleville Mennonite took twice as many shots as St. Joseph’s, 12-6, and took more corners than St. Joseph’s as well, 7-4.

The Thunder (10-7 overall), will begin ACAA torunament play on Thursday 17 against Dubois Christian.

Cross country

Boys: Northern Bedford 15, Mount Union 50

Girls: Northern Bedford 10, Mount Union 26 (4/4)

LOYSBURG — Northern Bedford was too deep and too fast for Mount Union, which ended its cross country regular season to the Panthers by losses of 15-50 (boys) and 10-26 (girls).

In the girls race, both teams fielded only four runners. Emily Boozel was fifth in that race, the leader for Mount Union. Bryce Beatty set the pace for the Trojan boys, crossing eighth.

Mount Union (Boys: 6-3, 5-3; Girls: 4-5, 3-5) returns to Northern Bedford Wednesday for the Inter-County Conference championship.

Volleyball

Everett 3, Mount Union 0

EVERETT–Mount Union volleyball lost in straight sets to Everett, 25-12, 25-14, 25-19.

The Trojans fought to keep it close in every set, getting better in each match. But, Mount Union had trouble keeping pace with Everett’s firepower.

Mount Union (5-10 league, 5-8 overall) faces Claysburg-Kimmel on Wednesday.
