Striders continue to nationals

Multiple members of the Juniata Valley Striders track-and-field team competed in the 2019 USATF Regional championships, with multiple standouts punching their ticket to compete in the USATF National Junior Olympic championships in Sacramento, California, July 29-August 4.

The Striders took home first place in both of its 4×800 relays. The 11 and 12-year-old division 4×800 was comprised of Reese Cubbison, Keegan Prendergast, Evan Shepherd and Fletcher Wilson, finishing with a time of 12:08.29. The boys also won in the 13 and 14-year old division, as Caden Bell, Gabe Yoder, Isaiah Mitchell and Malachi Angney finished with a winning time of 11:07.96.

Kylee Cubbison took home regional gold as well, finishing first in the girl’s 1500 with a time of 5:08.88.

Addie Parson finished second in the region in the girl’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:26.04. Caden Bell finished third in the boys’ 3,000 with a time of 11:21.29. Emily Wilson also had a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 22 feet, 2 inches.

In the1,500-meter run, Hoyt Rodenbaugh finished third with a time of 5:23.07. Noah Shepherd also finished third in the event with a time of 4:32.41.

Other Top 5 finishers include Reese Cubbison in the 800 with a time of 2:40.93 and Kylee Cubbison in the 800 with a time of 2:34.94.

All of the Top 5 finishers will represent the region by competing in the USATF National Junior Olympics. The athletes will represent Region 2, which is made up of New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, making it a fairly large region.

Other athletes who competed included Adam Pearson, who finished sixth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 6:29.04. Pearson also finished 6th in the 800 with a time of 3:15.93. Max Laudermilch finished sixth in the 3,000 with a time of 11:47.46, while Maggie Rodenbaugh finished 11th in the shot put with a throw of 20 feet, 5 inches.
