Sunderland’s big single lifts Strodes Mills to victory

LEWISTOWN — Strodes Mills’ Gage Sunderland connected on a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give his team a 7-6 win over Burnham Saturday.

The win knocked Burnham (2-1) from the ranks of the undefeated. Burnham was the last Mifflin County Babe Ruth League team to taste defeat this season.

Strodes Mills used four pitchers to get the win. Brady Eversole, Dupree Reed, Doug Weaver and Tyler Hunter all worked on the mound for the winners. Weaver got the win and Hunter got a save.

Burnham led 6-4 going into the bottom of the sixth when Strodes Mills struck for three runs. Hunter then threw a scoreless seventh for the save.

Burnham finished with eight hits as Levi Cherry and Garrett Davis each had two.

Eversole, Hunter and Sunderland each had two hits for Strodes Mills. Hunter had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.

McVeytown 4, Belleville 2

McVEYTOWN — McVeytown’s Logan Stimely had two of his team’s three hits including two RBIs as his team downed Belleville, 4-2.

Stimely had an RBI single in the third along with Hunter Gill’s RBI base hit that gave McVeytown a 3-1 lead. Stimely’s RBI double in the fifth gave McVeytown an insurance run.

Belleville had four hits. Luke Lyter had two of the four including an RBI double in the second inning.

Josh Bomberger picked up the win as he went five innings and then Jaron Yoder got the save with two shutout innings in the sixth and seventh.

Reedsville 5, Milroy 0

MILROY — Reedsville’s Zach Williams put together one of his best games ever on the mound as he struck out 12 and pitched a complete game in a 5-0 win over Milroy.

Williams walked only two and gave up just two hits in his seven innings of work.

Both of Milroy’s hits came from Ian Hartzler, both singles.

Reedsville scored four of its five runs in the fourth inning around three singles from Cole Chilson, Ryan Kanagy and Christopher Russell.

Williams and Jake Sheaffer also had base hits for Reedsville, which finished with five singles.
