Trojans shine in finale

MOUNT UNION — The Mount Union offense unloaded on Tyrone as the Trojans defeated the Golden Eagles 13-4 in a nonleague baseball game on Friday.

After giving up three runs in the top of the first inning where Mount Union committed all three of its errors — the Trojans came out of the gates swinging in the bottom half. Grayson McClain led off with a walk before Matt Harshbarger singled to put runners on first and second.

Dylan Gearhart then drove one deep to left center field to tie the game up at three apiece. But after the next two batters got out, it seem that was all that the Trojans were going to score, but then they added six more runs in the frame giving Mount Union a 9-3 lead.

The Trojans added more runs in the second. For the game Mount Union had eight different players with a hit or more as well as six who had at least one RBI.

Harshbarger went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a double. Gearhart went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Seth Smith pitched five innings striking out one while walking four giving four runs, one of which was earned off five hits before handing the ball over to Gearhart who finished off the final two innings with a strikeout.
