Peters, Kauffman lead Wildcats’ strong showing at invitational

SELINSGROVE — Greenwood girls had a strong showing Saturday at the Susquehanna Invitational, posting 17 top-20 finishes with eight of them being in the top five with a pair of wins.

The boys had a good day, too, posting eight top-20 finishes.

Rachel Peters won the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8 minutes, 54.79 seconds while Mallory Kauffman took first in the shot put event with a throw of 46 feet.

Hailey Womer had a pair of top-10 finishes, taking 10th in the 100-meter run (13.53) and eighth in the 200-meter run (27.81). Sophia Shoemaker took fifth in the 100-meter in 13.22 seconds.

Emma Rolston accounted for two of the Wildcats’ top-20 placers placing 13th in the high jump (4-8) and 17th in the 200-meter (28.88).

Amiyah Priebe was responsible for the Wildcats’ only other individual top-five finish, taking fourth in the 3,200-meter race (12:23.68). All three relay teams placed fifth or better.

Samantha Screiber had the last top-10 finish for Greenwood, placing seventh in in the high jump (5-0).

Rounding out the Wildcats’ success is Kiersten Burch who took 12th in the 800-meter (2:36.12), Olvia Muffit (19th in 100-meter hurdles in 19.01 seconds), Leah Bryner (20th in the 800-meter in 2:43.17) and Kelsey Sheaffer (20th in shot put with a throw of 25-4).

On the boys side, Andrew Loy had the best day, posting the only two top-10 finishes for the Wildcats. Loy took fifth in the 800-meter (2:06.3) while placing sixth in the 1,600-meter (4:44.51).

The only other athlete to post multiple top-20 finishes for Greenwood was Clayton Gothel who took 15th in the 110 hurdles (19.53) and 17th in the 300 hurdles (49.19).

The Wildcats picked up a pair of 14th place finishes with Brennan Miller in the 1,600-meter run (4:59.3) and Jacob Cummins in the 3,200 run (11:53.37).

Steven Watts (15th in high jump at 5-2) and Mitchell Kauffman (20th in shot put with a throw of 35-7.5) rounded out Greenwood’s success at the meet.
