TVL nixes hoops tourney

ELIZABETHVILLE — The Tri-Valley League basketball tournament has been canceled, and the league’s top teams declared champions.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the league said, “Due to the weather and other factors beyond our control the TVAA Basketball Playoffs will be canceled since we cannot get all necessary games in by the deadline.”

The East Juniata girls and both Greenwood teams were to play in the tournament. Semifinals were to be played today with championship games Friday.

However, a regular-season game between Line Mountain and Upper Dauphin was to determine the fourth boys team to qualify. Upper Dauphin has a better record than Line Mountain, but not Juniata. Had Line Mountain won that game, Juniata would have been the fourth team.

Line Mountain did not have school, and thus called off sports, on Wednesday. The league opted to cancel the tournament, which had to be completed this week as the teams involved will begin district play next week.

Halifax (boys) and Susquenita (girls) will be crowned the league champions. Bot\h have perfect 16-0 records in TVL play.
