Midd-West wins season finale

MIDDLEBURG — Shayla Heckman, Alyssa Keister and Alexis Walter combined scored 43 points as Midd-West ended its season with a 57-32 win over Montgomery in Heartland Conference girls basketball action Monday night.

Heckman finished with a game-high 17 points while Keister scored 14 and Walter had 12.

Walter was responsible for the Mustang’s lone 3-pointer of the contest.

The Mustangs also played terrific defense throughout the game, holding Montgomery to seven points in three separate quarters. They also didn’t allow anybody to finish with more than nine points scored in the game.

“We had a very unlucky year. The girls never played like they were a 2-20 team,” Midd-West coach Lisa Wagner said. “They played with heart and never gave up, no matter what the score was and played hard every game. We struggled with our shooting throughout the season and at times it was very frustrating. They could of quit, but they didn’t. they continued to keep working hard. We will learn from this and move forward.”
