Good start lifts Thunder to road win

SUNBURY — Sharing the wealth was a key factor in Belleville Mennonite’s 30-20 girls basketball victory over Sunbury Christian Thursday evening.

The Thunder had five different players score a basket while only allowing two Sunbury Christian players to score a point.

Chloe Renno led the Thunder with nine points.

Belleville Mennonite (3-5) travels to Forbes Road Saturday.

MIDDLEBURG — Midd-West rallied to win the last three bouts and in turn it helped it defeat Mifflinburg 36-27, in Heartland Conference wrestling Thursday night.

Avery Bassett (138 pounds) won by a 4-0 decision before Kameron Kline (145) won with a 3-1 decision of his own. Wyatt Bassett (152) ended the match with a pin in 52 seconds.

Midd-West travels to Danville Jan. 17.

Belleville Mennonite 55, Sunbury Christian 20

SUNBURY — Belleville Mennonite nearly had every player on its roster score a basket in its 55-20 victory over Sunbury Christian in boys basketball Thursday night.

“It was one of our best games of the year,” Thunder coach John Pannizzo said. “We played a complete game and our defense looked real good. We were really patient on offense and took good shots tonight.”

The Thunder were led by the trio of Tristan Henderson who scored 15 points, Zach Snook who had 12 and Jared Flood who finished with 10 for the game.

Belleville Mennonite (3-6) travels to Forbes Road Saturday.

HERNDON — The dynamic duo of Luke Myers and Aaron Morder powered Greenwood over Line Mountain 66-26 in a Tri-Valley League boys basketball game Thursday.

Myers and Morder led the Wildcats, each scoring 22 points in the game.

The Wildcats also won the JV game 69-33.

Greenwood (8-4, 7-1) hosts Newport Tuesday.

MILLERSBURG — East Juniata allowed 32 points in the first quarter and just couldn’t recover in its 83-35 loss to Millersburg in a Tri-Valley League boys basketball game Friday.

Xavier Clement led the Tigers with 13 points while Wayne Dressler had 12.

The Tigers also fell in the JV game, 52-21, with the high scorer being Brody Powell who had 10 points.
