East Juniata’s Will Orwig wins District 4; he, Tigers off to regional play

WILLIAMSPORT — It was two championships in two days for East Juniata golf as No. 1 player Will Orwig played a pair of strong rounds to win the District 4 Class 3A boys championship Friday at Williamsport Country Club.

Orwig followed his first-day 83 with an 86 Friday two take first and hold it to the end. He and the runner-up advanced to a regional.

The Tigers as a team won that competition Thursday and will also play as a team in a PIAA regional later this month.

Orwig advances to the eastern regional, which will be played Oct. 15 at Golden Oaks Country Club in Fleetwood.

The team event, a subregional with the District 2 champion, one of which will advance to the state round, is set for Thursday at Elmhurst Country Club in Moscow, Pa.

Also playing Friday for the Tigers were Tanner Barth, third with a 179 total; Colby Breeding, tied for fourth with a 188; and Max Lauver, seventh at 210. Mitchell Watts, who finished above the cut Thursday, opted to withdraw from the final round.

East Juniata’s Molly Diehl, playing in the girls Class 3A event, finished in a tie for third at 251 to end her season.

One Midd-West player, Cade Crossgrove, finished 14th in the Class 2A field with a 174. He also did not advance to the regional.
