Shellenberger scores twice to lead Juniata boys

MIFFLINTOWN — Tad Shellenberger led the way in Juniata’s 3-2 win over Line Mountain in a Tri-Valley League boys soccer game on Thursday.

Shellenberger scored a goal in each half while the third goal was scored by Jelvin Cardenas.

Juniata travels to Penns Valley on Saturday.

Boys soccer

Greenwood 4, Upper Dauphin 0

MILLERSTOWN — Luke Myers struck for a pair of goals and Greenwood defeated Upper Dauphin, 4-0, in a Tri-Valley League boys soccer game Thursday afternoon.

Both of Myers’ goals occured in the second half, just 10 minutes apart.

Aaron Morder had a goal and an assist for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats also won the JV game, 9-2.

Greenwood hosts Millersburg today.

TURBOTVILLE — Dominic Abate and Evan Eppley each scored a hat trick in Midd-West’s 8-2 win over Warrior Run in a Heartland Athletic Conference boys soccer game on Thursday.

Aiden Steininger and Canyon Ziegler each added a goal for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs also won the JV game with a final score of 4-1.

Midd-West (8-0, 6-0) hosts Mifflinburg Saturday.

HARRISBURG — Belleville Mennonite struggled to get going offensively in its loss to Harrisburg Academy Thursday.

Harrisburg Academy scored all three of its goals in the first half from three different players.

The Thunder were outshot by the Spartans 13-3 for the game.

Belleville Mennonite travels to Grace Prep on Monday.

HALIFAX — Halifax scored a goal in each half to shut out East Juniata Thursday.

Girls soccer

Mechanicsburg 8, Mifflin County 0

MECHANICSBURG — Mechanicsburg was too much for Mifflin County to handle as the Huskies fell 8-0 in a Mid-Penn Conference girls soccer game on Thursday.

The Huskies struggled to not only put points on the board, but had no shots on goal.

The Wildcats also won the JV game 5-0

Mifflin County hosts Big Spring on Saturday.

Bellwood-Antis 3, Mount Union 1

BELLWOOD — Mount Union battled but couldn’t overcome its struggles in its loss to Bellwood-Antis in an Inter-County Conference volleyball match on Thursday.

“We definitely didn’t lay down,” Trojans coach Tessa McCormick said. “We were aggressive at the net, we just needed to get rid of the unforced errors.”

The Blue Devils took the first two sets of the match. But the Trojans refused to quit and fought their way back and won the third set.

Mount Union (3-4, 3-3) travels to Fannett-Metal on Monday.

Cross country

SUSQUENITA — Juniata split its Tri-Valley League cross country meet Thursday against Susquenita and Newport with the Indians losing 22-33 to the Blackhawks but won over the Buffaloes 15-55.

Zeb Ames was the top runner for Juniata, finishing third with a time of 22:17. The Indians also had four more finish within the top 10.

On the girls side Emily Houtz scored the individual win for the Indians with a time of 25:59.

Juniata travels to the PIAA Foundation meet in Hershey on Saturday.

Central Dauphin East 4, Mifflin County 1

LEWISTOWN — Amanda Foltz was lone victor for Mifflin County in its 4-1 loss to Central Dauphin East in a Mid-Penn tennis match Thursday.

Foltz defeated Rachelle Phan in straight sets winning 6-4, 6-2. In the doubles match Olivia Kahley and Sky Curry took the first set before dropping the next two.

Mifflin County (0-11) travels to Northern York today.

MILLERSBURG — Will Orwig led the way for East Juniata which scored a team total of 355 in its win during a Tri-Valley League golf match against Newport and Millersburg Thursday.

Orwig shot a 78 for the Tigers while Colby Breeding had a 84.
