Strodes Mills wins big for fifth in a row
LEWISTOWN — Strodes Mills won its fifth game in a row as it downed Lewistown, 13-1, Saturday and moved into third place in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.
Strodes Mills (15-6) is now two and half games in back of league-leading McVeytown (17-3) heading into the last week of the season.
Tonight McVeytown travels to fifth-place Beaver Springs (12-7)). The Springs has handed McVeytown two of its three losses. Meanwhile in Belleville (15-4), the second place team from Big Valley tangles with Strodes Mills. Both games start at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, Strodes’ Connor Cherry held Lewistown hitless for the first three innings. Cherry, who picked up the win, struck out five and walked two. Jaxson Pupo finished as he gave up a run and two hits.
Lewistown didn’t score until the fifth inning as Gavin Ream walked, went to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a base hit from Braden Sheaffer and scored on a Strodes Mills throwing error.
Strodes Mills finished with nine hits as Cherry and Pupo each had two.
Pupo had two doubles and in the third inning, when Strodes sent 14 men to the plate, he and Cherry had back to back two base hits. Cherry finished with three RBI’s and Pupo drove in two.
Strodes Mills scored four times in the second as it got singles up and down the line-up from Tyler Hunter, Aaron Grassmyer, Thomas Resignalo and Cade Penepacker.
The winners wrapped up the game with nine runs in the third inning. Lewistown aided the Strodes cause with six errors, a walk and a wild pitch in the third.
