Mifflin County has success at Mid-Penn championship meet

MECHANICSBURG — Mifflin County sent six swimmers — Braden Kibe, Kevin Neavling and Ethan Andrews for the boys and Macy Becker, Hannah Bonson and Ella Stuck for the girls — to the Mid-Penn swimming championships this past weekend at Cumberland Valley High School.

Bonson had the best weekend of the six with a pair of 12th place finishes. Racing in the 200-yard individual medley Friday night, Bonson finished in 2:20.14. She had a timing of 1:13.40 in the 100-yard breaststroke Saturday.

Andrews also competed in two different events taking 17th in the 100 backstroke in 0:58.38 and 26th in the 200 IM (2:15.85).

Rounding out swimmers in multiple events, Stuck placed 28th in the 200 IM in 2:34.14 and 29th in the 500 free with a time of 5:58.16 while Kibe finished 30th in the 200 free (2:00.16) and 32nd in the 100 free (0:53.72).

Becker (1:05.01 in the 100 butterfly) and Neavling (0:23.38 in the 50 free) also had top-20 finishes for the Huskies. Becker took 19th and Neavling 20th in their events.

Girls basketball

St. Joseph’s 36, East Juniata 23

BOALSBURG — Haley Lesh nearly scored half of East Juniata’s points in a 36-23 loss to St. Joseph’s in Tri-Valley League girls basketball Saturday.

Lesh finished with a team-high 11 points for the Tigers.

East Juniata (8-13) travels to Line Mountain today.

Milton 49, Midd-West 34

MILTON — Alyssa Keister’s 15-point performance was not nearly enough for Midd-West as it fell to Milton, 49-34, in Heartland Conference girls basketball Saturday.

Rachel Teats and Zoe Webb each scored nine points for the Mustangs in the team’s final game of the season.

Logan Shoemaker had a team-high 12 points for the Mustangs, in what was the team’s season finale.
