Walker sets record in MC’s loss

STATE COLLEGE — Mifflin County’s Ryan Walker sunk six 3-pointers on his way to a 28-point performance, and in doing so put himself alone atop the program’s all-time scoring ranks.

The Huskies lost to State College, 77-58, in Mid-Penn Conference action.

Walker entered Friday night’s contest with 680 career points, trailing only Jack Packer who previously held the scoring record at 685.

Now with 708, Walker looks to pad his offensive stats some with nine games remaining in the season.

Tyreen Smalley also scored 14 points for the Huskies.

State College also took matters in the JV game, 59-36. Adam Sheetz scored 18 for the Huskies.

Mifflin County travels to Cumberland Valley Tuesday.

COCOLAMUS — In what was a one-point game at half, East Juniata got strong performances from Wayne Dressler, Xavier Clement and Jon Nace to pull away with a 64-55 win Friday over Susquenita in Tri-Valley League boys basketball.

Dressler led the way, finishing with 19 points. He added 13 rebounds to end with a double-double.

Clement scored a game-high 21 points for the Tiger while Jon Nace added 16, respectively.

Susquenita won the JV game, 34-32.

East Juniata hosts Juniata Monday afternoon.

FLINTON — Mount Union had its way early and often in a 90-50 win over Glendale in an Inter-County Conference boys basketball game Friday night.

The Trojans had five players — River Terry (10), Quinton Posey (13), Mykell Smith (20), Tyreek Sechrist (12) and Trey Heffelfinger (13) — score 10 or more points.

“We came out with better focus tonight, we took care of the ball better spread the ball around and played with more energy,” Mount Union coach Scott McClain said.

Both Daunte Martin and Dylan Gearhart finished with nine points.

Mount Union travels to Moshannon Valley Tuesday.

MOUNT UNION — Laiken Turner and Keairra Worthy had a combined 35 points and Mount Union had its way in a 71-19 win over Inter-County Conference foe Glendale in girls basketball Friday night.

Turner scored a game-high 20 points while Worthy had 15, respectively. The two also went 12-for-14 at the free-throw line.

“Tonight the team that I always see at practice showed up to the game tonight,” Mount Union coach Alix Sellers said. “We gained confidence in ourselves when we started out in a press right from the start, and their frustrations gave us confidence offensively. We were making connections on our fast break and making great ball movement.”

Alexis Ryan also sunk three 3-pointers for the Trojans.

Mount Union (6-7, 3-4) hosts Moshannon Valley Monday.
