Scholastic sports: Mustangs victorious on Keister’s OT goal

MIDDLEBURG — Alyssa Keister scored the game’s first and last goal in Midd-West’s 3-2 win over Selinsgrove in Heartland Conference girls soccer Wednesday night.

In a back-and-forth contest, Tigers’ Keister scored the game-winning goal at the 7:58 mark in overtime. With an assist from Kelli Beiler, Keister notched the first goal in the 32nd minute in the first half.

Beiler scored the Mustangs’ go-ahead goal in the second half.

“It was a nice conference game to walk away with a win,” Midd-West coach Lance Burris said. “Selinsgrove battled extremely hard and played a physical game.”

Selinsgrove forced overtime with 10 minutes left in the contest when Riley Besker found the back of the net.

East Juniata (3-1, 2-1) travels to Williamsport Monday.

Girls soccer

East Juniata 13,

Upper Dauphin 0

ELIZABETHVILLE — Kierstyn Fogle had a big game for East Juniata in its 13-0 win over Upper Dauphin in TVL girls soccer Wednesday night.

Fogle notched a hat-trick and had an assist for the Tigers. Hailey Swartz and Leah Sankey finished with two goals.

“The girls played hard, and we were excited to see the intensity pick up from previous games,” East Juniata coach Valeria Dressler said.

East Juniata (3-1, 2-0) hosts Muncy Saturday.

MIFFLINTOWN –Juniata was taken to overtime where it fell to Line Mountain, 2-1, in a Tri-Valley League girls soccer game Wednesday afternoon.

Josie Swartz scored the lone goal for the Indians, striking in the 21st minute. Makenzi Beward had the assist.

“Line Mountain brought a lot of intensity tonight and certainly more desire to win this game,” Juniata coach Brian Strawser said. “They are a much improved team and right now, we are not very good; at least not when we play at that pace and skill level.”

Morgan Keim scored both goals for Line Mountain.

Juniata travels to Altoona on Saturday.

Volleyball

Upper Dauphin 3, Juniata 0

ELIZABETHVILLE — Juniata gave Upper Dauphin a good run in the second set of its 3-0 loss in a TVL volleyball match Wednesday evening.

Upper Dauphin swept the match, 25-5, 25-19 and 25-6.

Indians’ Hunter Johns and Morgan Snyder each had three aces. Susanna Ranck had a team-best two kills, and Clara McCahren led the team with two digs.

Juniata hosts St. Joseph’s on Monday

Tennis

¯ Mifflin County’s tennis match at Northern has been postponed until Tuesday at 4 p.m.
