Weekend packed with Babe Ruth games
BELLEVILLE — With the rain on Friday, there came a lot of rescheulding on the Babe Ruth tournament trail.
In the 15-year-old state tournament in Belleville, the Mifflin County game was washed out and now the local All-Stars will play Altoona at 12:30 p.m. today.
In other games today, Springford takes on West End, Williamsport at 10 a.m. and then at 3 p.m., Media faces Pennsbury. In the 5:30 p.m. game, Broomall will play Valley.
There will be four games on Sunday and Mifflin County’s 15-year-old squad will not play as it has the day off.
At 10 a.m., Altoona plays Franklin Township; 12:30 p.m., Pennsbury faces Springford; 3 p.m., West End plays Media and at 5:30 p.m., Valley will play its neighbor, Franklin Township.
Mifflin County’s remaining games in the pool will be at 10 a.m. Monday against Broomall and at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when it tangles with Franklin Township.
There were two games played in the 15-year-old tournament on Friday as Broomall punished Franklin Township, 11-0 and 21st Ward Roxbury defeated Pennsbury, 4-3, in eight innings.
In the 13-year-old tournament in Altoona, Broomall beat Tri-Township, 9-5; West End beat Franklin Township, 8-4 and Drexel Hill downed Tri-County, 12-5. In the night game, Boyertown played Altoona.
The Mifflin County 13-year-old squad opens a string of four straight days with games as it plays Drexel Hill in Altoona at 5 p.m. today. On Sunday, Mifflin County goes up against Broomall at 11 a.m. On Monday, Mifflin County plays at 2 p.m. against Tri-County, and on Tuesday, Mifflin County will meet Tri-Township at 11 a.m.
The Mifflin County 14-year-olds begin their national championship defense against Valley today in Lehighton.
The other games for Mifflin County in its pool are Council Rock, Newtown, 5 p.m. on Sunday; Broomall at 5 p.m. Monday and Altoona at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
