Scholastic sports: Mifflin County sets 3 records
CARLISLE — Though both Mifflin County boys and girls teams fell to Carlisle, the Huskies managed to break three school records in a Mid-Penn Conference track and field meet Tuesday.
On the boys side, the Huskies lost to the Thundering Herd 81-69 but captured school records from Andrew Bennett and Seth Philips. Bennett broke the discus record at 139 feet-10 inches and took first place in the event. Philips won the 400 meter run with the time of 50.5.
“I was very happy with the way the kids performed tonight,” Mifflin County boys coach Scot Sechler said. “On the bus afterwards, I’d told them in all my years of coaching I’ve never been so proud of a group of kids in a loss. They put everything on the track and on the field and came away with two school records, just a great overall team performance.”
The girls struggled against Carlisle, losing 117-33, but Skylar Ciccolini established a new team record in Javelin with a distance of 151 feet- 1 inch.
“Overall, we kinda knew what we were getting into with Carlisle. They’ve been one of the strongest teams in the conference,” girls coach Scott Gantz said. “Right now, we have a lack of depth and we knew it was going to be a up hill battle for us. But just like the boys, we have a bunch of girls who will give you everything they have and as a coach, you can’t ask for more than that.”
Mifflin County hosts Harrisburg Tuesday.
