LEWISTOWN — They went and did it again.

The Burnham Bulldogs peewee team finished on another high note, wrapping up its second straight undefeated season and winning the Central Keystone Football and Cheer League championship in back-to-back years.

In the last three years, the Bulldogs have lost just once.

Leading the way for the Burnham Bulldogs was Gavin Knode, who scored all three Burnham touchdowns en route to a 20-0 victory over No. 2 seed Midd-West Mustangs.

Knode broke the 150-yard rushing mark in the victory, and showed a strong arm, passing for 75.

“They played great. All the kids played great. They play tough and we practice all week,” Burnham coach Randy Knode said. “We really do. We play hard and practice tough. It feels good.”

Burnham picked up its first touchdown on its first possession of the game on a long nine-play drive that culminated in a Gavin Knode 1-yard run.

The Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead with 5:25 left in the opening stanza.

The Bulldogs’ defense was a swarming one, and despite giving the Mustangs some yardage after their touchdown, they forced the Mustangs to punt the ball.

“We had a good year. We only had one loss,” Midd-West coach Wesley Peters said. “We really played well the second part of the season. But today we didn’t show up on the defensive line I guess. We only lost two games the season. So I’m proud of them for the year we had.”

With the ball back in the Bulldogs’ hands, Knode and his line were back at it early in the second quarter.

After muscling their way down the field, the Bulldogs got the ball down to the Midd-West 5-yard line.

Knode called his own number once again and pushed his way in from five out, upping the score to 14-0 when he connected with Blake Stringfellow for a successful two-point conversion.

From there, the Bulldogs’ defense dug in and controlled the tempo for the rest of the contest.

Knode was at it one more time early in the fourth quarter as he cashed in on another score, this time from nine yards out.
