East Juniata walks off with 6-5 victory

COCOLAMUS -Good things come in threes.

East Juniata got a walk-off three-bagger as a part of a 3-for-3 night with three RBIs from one of its most experienced players, Kasi Horning and earned a 6-5 win over Halifax in a Tri-Valley League softball game at East Juniata High School on Thursday.

“We finally had a game that the girls played solid from start to finish, keeping their intensity up for the entire seven innings,” East Juniata coach Joe Schilling said. “This was a great team effort and win. It was great to see them play at their potential.”

While pitching has plagued the Tigers for most of the season, on this day, it was a different story.

Cassandra Minium and Allison Beaver combined to allow four hits on the day, while the Tigers got nine hits off of Halifax starter Chelsea Conyar.

“Our pitching was solid by both Minium and Beaver and they kept Halifax at bay with only four hits,” Schilling said.

The junior varsity game was in the first inning when it was called for rain.

East Juniata will look to build on the win today when concluding their season and travel to Tri-Valley League opponent Line Mountain.

Line Mountain 4, Juniata 3

MIFFLINTOWN – Despite the rainy conditions, Juniata got its last baseball game of the season in Thursday. Unfortunately for the Indians, they lost the Tri-Valley League contest, 4-3, to Line Mountain.

The Indians outhit Line Mountain 8-4, and Juniata coach Nick Beward said his team played a strong game.

“We outplayed them tonight,” he said. “The only place we got beat was the scoreboard.”

Chantz Swartz took the loss from the mound, giving up only four hits in seven innings, but he also went 3-for-4 from the plate, including a double and one RBI.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my guys for the way they finished out the season,” said Beward, whose team ended the season at 6-11 overall and 6-10 in the TVL, but took many of those losses by only one run.
