Midd-West’s Lieberman looks for gold
WILLIAMSPORT – Alex Lieberman is one match closer to another trip to the state wrestling tournament.
Lieberman, runnerup in last week’s District 4 championship at 170 pounds, earned a spot Friday night in the semis of the Northeastern regional with a pin in 2:48 over Rashau Mathis of Wilkes-Barre GAR.
The Midd-West Mustang senior will face No. 1 seed Derek Dragon of Lake-Lehman in the semis at 9:30 a.m. today in the Williamsport High gym. Consolation and championship finals are at 4:30 p.m.
Lieberman, the fourth seed, ran his record to 32-6 with the win. Dragon, the District 2 champion is 29-7.
The two other entrants in the regional, Tanner Ebright at 132 pounds and Zach Longacre at 220, were pinned and moved into the consolation bracket. The top three in each weight class move on to states.
Eight of the 14 weight classes are filled with four District 4 wreslers. Warrior Run’s Brian LeBarron registered an eight-second pin at 126 pounds.
