Racing community set to meet for season preview

MILLERSTOWN – Racing fans, race drivers and others who are part of the region’s auto racing community will gather Saturday in Millerstown to provide a preview of the 2014 racing season.

The “Racing Super Saturday” program is hosted by Millerstown Moose Lodge No. 925 and the PA Sports Network. The event begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. in the lodge ball room.

The opening portion of the program will be geared toward the media. Race track operators and race drivers will participate in a press conference with each detailing their intentions this racing season. After the press conference, race fans will be invited to speak with those in attendance.

Area raceways involved include Lincoln, Port Royal, Williams Grove, Middle Road, Bedford and America’s Raceway Park near Clearfield. Lynn Paxton, director of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, will present the latest projects the nonprofit group is working on. Promoters Alan Kreitzer, Steve O’Neal, Kevin Maloy, Jeff Taylor, Tim Alexander and Mike Sotokowsky will have presentations that include area tracks, PA sprint car and late model speedweeks and the USAC wingless sprint car eastern swing.

Drivers committed include Greg Hodnett, Doug Esh, Tyler Bear, Dylan Cisney, Jeff Taylor, Eric Zembower, Waylon Wagner, Tim Wilson, Mike Lupfer, the Newlin brothers, Eric Parker and Chris Stringfellow. Additional drivers are also expected. Driver fan gear will be available for sale.

Organizers hope this will become a yearly event.

Doors to the lodge will actually open at 8 a.m. when the PA Sports Network begins its morning sports show, which lasts until noon. Racing updates with host Jed Donahue will start at 8:15 a.m. and continue throughout the morning. Lewistown’s WIEZ-AM 670 is the local affiliate carrying the broadcast.
