Tigers blanked by Dawgs

HEGINS – Hunter Harner’s big start to the season continued Friday.

The Tri-Valley senior rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another as the Dawgs stayed unbeaten with a 28-0 victory over East Juniata in a Tri-Valley League contest.

Harner scored two touchdowns on the ground, from two and seven yards, and added a seven-yard touchdown pass to Cale Bruso to guide the Dawgs to their fourth straight win.

Harner finished with 158 rushing yards and 60 yards through the air.

“Hunter’s been doing this all year,” Tri-Valley coach Mike Ulicny said. “We’ve also been trying to spread the ball around more so we can see what some of the other guys can do.”

One of those other rushers included Tanner Coleman, who also broke the 100-yard rushing mark with 115 yards and scored on a 14-yard run in the first quarter.

“Coleman deserves to get that many yards,” Ulicny said. “He’s been working hard all year.”

The first quarter saw the Dawgs’ Chase Schaeffer recover a fumble on the Tigers’ first drive to quickly put momentum in Tri-Valley’s favor.

The pendulum swung the other way when Harner threw an interception to David Brantley.

Harner threw two interceptions on the night, but East Juniata was unable to capitalize.

The Tigers were repeatedly stopped all game, with their closest chance to score in the first half being a missed field goal. East Juniata rushed for 115 yards and threw for 91, but mustered just seven first downs.

East Juniata’s defense seemed to be no match for the Bulldogs as Tri-Valley scored a touchdown in every quarter of the game and put up 390 total yards on offense.
