LEWISTOWN – Emily Hurlburt and the doubles team of Kate Arnold and Jessa Wright started the season the way they wanted to as the three took wins over Mid-Penn Conference opponent Palmyra on Monday for the Mifflin County girls tennis team’s season opener.
However, theirs were the only wins for the Huskies as Palmyra edged the locals, 3-2.
Hurlburt defeated Vi Tran in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 while Arnold and Wright did the same against Julia Walker and Maggie Gillef, 6-2, 6-0.
Kate Hugendubler fought hard in her match against Emily Bucks, as two sets went to a tiebreaker, but ultimately took the loss.
Alana Felton won one set against Lexi Kline as she fell, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles spot while Mackenzie Roush and Rachel Stimeling failed to win a set in their doubles match.
“It was a good first match. We have a lot of players who are playing positions they haven’t played before, so we’ll be building,” Mifflin County coach Glenn Kyle said.
